Blogtoberfest Day#11 ~ Scraps Tub

A job I can't put off any longer. Its overflowing onto the floor now, so today I am cleaning out and sorting through my scraps tub. For more blogtoberfest fun - go here : )
ETA -Scraps tub all sorted. I tend to sort through to the biggest pieces and cut off all the danglely bits and keep the pieces that are usable for small projects, purses, bunting flags, appliques, etc. and then just chuck the rest. I also sort into boy fabrics and girls fabrics. About 2/3 of the way through I ditched what was still in the tub without looking! All scraps now sorted and getting posted off to a few people. Jennifer - will keep some aside at the next clean out for you : )

EB Kids Clothes Swap 2010

The EB Kids Clothes Sewing Swap is all over for this year now and I can reveal what I made for two children now that they have been received. For Renee's little girl who is almost 7, I made a twirly patchwork skirt from Sandi Hendersons Analise Pattern. This was the first time I had used this pattern which I had, had for over 12 months in my stash and I loved making it. It involved LOTS of fabric, but well worth it. I also added a matching t-shirt with some ruffles to the front. Some pics of Renee's little girl wearing the outfit here and here. For the second outfit I made for one of Emma's boys who is almost 3. A basic pair of denim shorts with linen pockets and a matching t-shirt with applique to match the shorts.
For Matilda I received a couple of gorgeous outfits from Naomi. Naomi did an absolutely beautiful job on all the sewing and even included a pin cushion and some chocolates, yum!
For Tom I received a gorgeous outfit from Joy. I am yet to get pics of Tom wearing this one, but the detail Joy has gone to with the pockets on the shorts is fabulous!

Spring/Summer 2010/11 Collection - sneak peaks . . .

I have been a very quiet blogger of late, busy trying to fit in cutting out and sewing every spare moment I have - when my 3 little helpers are sleeping or busy occupied playing.
This year, while also offering the OOAK (one of a kind) clothing I am bringing out a "Collection" of select items for both the boys and girls. I am using a lot of plain linen/cotton blend fabrics, mixed with designer cottons - with a couple of gorgeous Australian designed fabrics thrown in also. Some unusual embellishments and other unique features that I hope will be liked or loved. So here's a peak at some new items for the girls . . .

More sneaks peaks in the coming month : )

My Creative Space

Today I am back to some more quilting. I received an order of fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop in the post today - a layer cake of this new collection by Moda - Botany by Lauren & Jessi Jung. I love the earthy colours of this collection with the hints of pinks. So once I had the two littlest ones down for nap, I got cutting and put together this simple cot size quilt top.

This one I'll hopefully have finished for the next market in a couple of weeks time.

Quilting and Clippies

I am slowly getting myself into the groove of sewing, quilting and crafting again now that baby Nate is 5 weeks old - where are the weeks going. He is growing rapidly approaching the 5kg mark already, following us about, poking out his tongue an almost smiling : )
This week I have been making these cute little ribbon clippies that I thought might be a good extra for the markets as lots of customers also ask for clips rather than hair ties.
I also got some gorgeous fabrics in the post this week from Earthgirl Fabrics (I must say fabulous fast service!) - 6 fat quarters from Alexander Henry's Willow Collection. I love these gorgeous bright prints and have a couple of the fabrics ordered for Summer : ) I made this cot size quilt top yesterday from the fat quarters.
More sewing and crafting to be done over the coming weeks with 3 upcoming markets to get ready for : )

Getting Ready for Summer 2010

I'm starting to get my Summer 2010 Collection ready and this is a peak at some of the fabrics that I may be working with. Some new, some old, some japanese. I can't wait to show off some of my new designs : ) I have also been approached by a photographer to do a photo shoot for me and I am excited about that in the coming months.

For Summer I am looking at releasing something a little different to what I usually do. A short run of limited pieces across all sizes - as well as the usual OOAK fabric combinations in select designs.
Stay tuned for some sneak peaks in the coming weeks : )

My Creative Space

Today i am getting back into the swing of things and getting stuck into some more cutting out of winter dresses. I have a market on the Anzac Day long weekend here that I am really not sure how busy it might be as this is the first time this event has been run - but if your in the Mildura area, come on out to the Artback Gallery at Wentworth between 10am & 4pm for a very special handmade market : )

Today is my first day home alone with my 3 babies now that hubby has gone back to work and so far so good, little Nate is a fantastic sleeper - I can't believe that I have been blessed (touch wood) with 3 great sleepers so hopefully I can still get lots of crafting and sewing achieved in bits and pieces throughout the day.

My Creative Space

I'm quilting today. Some little pram quilts for the Easter Markets coming up that I have whipped up from some jelly rolls I had stashed away for a rainy day, not that its raining here, but I am still looking forward to the winter weather coming upon us and the days getting below 30 degrees!

The fabric is "Birdie" by Me & My Sister for Moda. Check out lots of other wonderful creative spaces today HERE : )

For the Boys - "MuddiPIES"

Finally some sewing for the boys! These cute little singlet and short sets are off to a new wholesaler - MuddiPIES. They don't have a website yet, but are set up like a little travelling boutique in NSW. So basically customers can place an order with them for their choice of set and size, I make it to order and post it off. There will also be a third option of the shorts in denim with the pockets in another contrasting fabric that I am yet to pick. Freehand applique tie and patch on the singlets, and one side and one back pocket on the shorts.

And the shorts are "real" shorts. Not the shorts you buy a the shops for little boys that hang down between the knee and the ankle and should really be called 3/4 pants and not shorts. I have never been able to find shorts that actually sit just on the knee or just above for my little man and it is a constant request from customers . . . but these little cuties do : )

My Creative Space

Patchwork Scarves are on the agenda today. This is a new design for Winter that I originally thought to add in for the little ones but found that they are really a OSFM (one size fits most) from little people to big people! Lined with flannel and backed with soft cord I am hoping these are a hit at the markets. My original measurements were to have them 6 inches wide, but have cut them down to 4 inches wide and we'll see how they go. I have 25 more all cut out and ready to sew, busy busy days!
And my in-house model Miss M modelling the larger width sized one . . .

More winter sneak peaks coming soon,
with the official release of all my new designs on the 2nd March 2010 : )

EB RR Block Swap - Quilt top for Miss M

Just before Christmas I received my 12 blocks as part of the EB Newbie Quilts Round Robin Block Swap. Basically it involved 12 of us making up the same 12 blocks in each other's fabrics. We each used 3 different coloured fabrics with one main background colour for each block - my fabrics used are a fat quarter pack of Anna Griffin's 'Riley' collection, which is now just about all gone. The swap was completed in just under 6 months (blocks are 12 inch square). It is a little confusing to explain the swap, but basically I got back 12 different blocks in my own fabrics.
I am using the blocks to make a new quilt for Miss M's new big girl bed she is getting for her 2nd birthday in less than a couple of weeks time. So today I finished off the quilt top. I decided on plain white sashing and used up the scraps that came back to me to do a border around that. The finished size is approx. 60 inches x 76 inches to go on her King Single bed. I am still working on the backing and then it will need to be sandwiched and FMQ'd - all in my spare time ; )

Completed quilt top

Close up of the other 6 blocks

I was worried there was just a little too much pink in the blocks when I got them back, but now with the white sashing and the border I am pretty happy with how it is looking. I am seaching for some curtain fabric to go with this now and am having lots of problems trying to find something suitable. Definitely not pink - I am thinking a green of some sort similar to the paler green in the fabrics, as I would also like to do a feature wall in green similar to this, maybe a little darker, in Miss M's new room.

Advent Blog-a-long Day #23 - Fabric loveliness

New fabrics to keep my busy over Christmas - would be good though if Australia Post would deliver all the other parcels and packages I am still waiting on that should have been here by now! Grrr . . . .

Advent Blog-a-long Day #10 - My Creative Space : Summer Sewing & more dresses off to MissChief Maker!

I haven't had a lot of time to sew for my two lately, but today it took me just 30 minutes including cutting out time to whip up this little set for Miss M - who has become very photogenic and quite the little poser in the last few weeks, lol. Just a shortened version of my gypsy dress in one fabric for the top and some basic bloomer shorts without the elastic cuff I usually do. This fabric by Sanae is left over from the EB Dolls Quilt Swap I did a few weeks ago, silly me bought a full half yard set to do a dolls quilt, lol - I still have plenty left!

And another order of dresses that were posted off to MissChief Maker in Canberra this morning, including a small selection of Tilda dresses which Katie hasn't stocked in the store before, more of these ones coming to the store again next week - back to the sewing machine for me! Hopefully Australia Post co-operates and Katie has these available at her shop for the weekend!
